| This illustration shows
the "T" values of this system.
Beginning with T1 at the hand, the
rope enters and exits the first two pulleys with T1. The eye
of the first two pulleys is T2 (i.e., the sum of the rope's T values).
The T2 from the prusik and the T1
from the rope result in T3 entering the bottom pulley. The rope
also exits the bottom pulley with T3, so the bottom anchor, and the load,
have T6.
Since there is T1 on the hand and T6
on the pulley, this is a 6-to-1 (i.e., 6:1) system.
Each one pound of pull by the hand will
raise six pounds of load. This hand is holding 100 pounds of
the 600 pound load.
Experienced rescuers will probably
notice that this is a 3-to-1 (i.e., Z rig) pulling on a 2-to-1.
The 3-to-1 on a 2-to-1 results in a 6-to-1.
